Rivers Rhine and Moselle flow through the north of Rhineland-Palatinate. Moselle arises in French Vosges Mountains and flows after 545 kilometres in Koblenz into the Rhine. Together with the rivers Moselle, Saar and Ruwer Moselle country forms the oldest man-made landscape and wine scenery in Germany. Koblenz is the largest city in the region and embedded in four low mountain ranges: Eifel, Hunsrück, Westerwald and Taunus.

The area along the Moselle’s banks seems to be made for travelling, no matter whether in spring, on warm summer days, in autumn during grape harvest or in winter. Numerous winegrower's villages, special wine museums or „Vinotheken“ and of course many castles on mountain tops offer varied possibilities for holidays.

Wine – Main attraction around the Moselle?

Today four wine streets go through Moselle country. Already the Romans were many centuries ago enchanted by the region‘s scenery and settled. They brought the shoots and cultivated wine. Moreover, they made Trier capital of the Roman west empire and finally a splendid imperial residence, called "Roma Secunda". Not only are the wine remains of this glorious time. Splendid constructions, like the Porta Nigra, amphitheatre and Kaiserthermen testify to it.

Wines of the grape "Riesling" from Moselle Saar Ruwer are today among the best in the world. At partly steep slopes and on slate grounds or sandstone these grapes prosper best. Do not miss to join one of the countless wine parties. In some places even Roman dishes after original recipes are served!
