Fans of Castles and wine will just love it!

The major county town of Cochem is an approved tourist resort with approximately 5,000 inhabitants.

It is situated in the administrative district of Cochem-Zell in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The town is the biggest one in the county and the second smallest major county town in Germany. It was first mentioned in records in AD 886.

Impressively restored castle

As early as Celts and Roman times, Cochem was place for settlement. Today it is situated on both banks of the Moselle and in the heights of the Eifel. An attractive surrounding, a historical old town part with a huge number of places worth seeing as well as the landmark of Cochem, the imperial castle Reichsburg Cochem, make the town one of the most important tourist destinations at the Moselle.

The Pinnerkreuz, a lookout point overlooking the town and its surroundings is situated 255 metre high and can be reached by chairlift.

County of Cochem-Zell

The administrative district of Cochem-Zell counts 63,000 inhabitants and 92 municipalities. It lies in the northern middle part of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Seat of administration is the city of Cochem. The region is characterized by the Moselle valley. The river Moselle flows right through the middle of the county and the mountain ranges of Eifel and Hunsrück, that rise on the right and left sides of the river.

The different scenery forms of Eifel, Moselle and Hunsrück offer not only a variety of sportive activities and leisure possibilities, but also a famous spot for Moselle wines. It further houses Germany’s only Glaubersalz thermal spa, Europe’s most precipitous vineyard and one of Germany’s longest railway tunnels.
