Koblenz
Koblenz
Two thousand years of history

Koblenz is an independent city and has around 110,000 inhabitants. Being situated in the northern part of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, it is both seat of the federal archive as well as that of the constitutional court of justice of Rhineland-Palatinate. Koblenz is partly listed in UNESCO‘s world heritage list and has a history going back 2,000 years.

Confluence of Moselle with Rhine

Koblenz is bordering the foothills of the Hunsrück, Eifel and Taunus as well as the Westerwald. It is located on both banks of the river Rhine, directly at its confluence with the Moselle, where the Deutsches Eck and its 37m high monument of Emperor William I on horseback is situated.

With its castles, former noble courts, grand manors and romantic narrow streets, Koblenz is not only one of the oldest but also one of the most beautiful cities in Germany.

A famous place of attraction is the fountain of Schängelbrunnen which is dedicated to the city’s mascot, the "Schängel" (rascal) and his pranks. Located in the centre of the city hall’s courtyard in the Old Town, the fountain is surrounded by baroque buildings. In irregular intervals the bronze figure spits a jet of water up to several metres far. It has already made many unknowing travellers wet.

A spectacular view

A spectacular view of Koblenz the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein is providing, which is the second largest preserved fortress in Europe. A panoramic cable railway cabin takes visitors to the fortress. Those you prefer the ride to be still more outstanding can take a cabin with glass floor.

Lovers of old castles can take a tour starting at Koblenz, going upwards the Rhine, where around 40 castles and fortresses are situated along the middle Rhine Valley.

“Rhine in Flames”

Event wise Koblenz offers some uniquely festivals, too. „Rhine in Flames“ takes place every year on three days in different locations along the Rhine and features several fireworks, ship convoys, show stages with live music, regional kitchen and guests from all over the world.
