Westerland is a quarter in the municipality of Sylt on the North Sea island of Sylt. This provincial town by the sea is equally favoured by national and international tourists.

In Westerland you can enjoy city life along with nature. Exclusive and original boutiques invite to go shopping. Numerous cafés and restaurants offer delicious dishes. In Westerland you can find crowded squares as well as lonesome dunes. Whether volleyball or surfing, at the beach you will find the right activity. Moreover, the very long sandy beach encourages to swim and lie in the sun.

Church St. Niels was built in 1634 and accommodates some treasures of art worth seeing. After the church had become too small for Westerland’s population at the beginning of the last century church St. Nicolai was built. This brick stone building is the biggest church on the island. Roofs covered with reeds remind of former times. The Health Centre is used as a Casino now. An round trip on the island will give you a good impression of the whole island.

However, most of the tourists come to Westerland to party. Whether cultural events, sport competitions or musical highlights, in Westerland is always something happening. The Windsurf World cup and the Sylvester Gala are only some of them. The variety of events can be checked at the town’s calendar of events.
