Eckernförde
Charming old town centre and wonderful beach

The Baltic resort Eckernförde is capital town of the circle of Rendsburg-Eckernförde. The town is situated in the federal state of Schleswig - Holstein in the Eckernförde bay.

The old city centre with its restored fishing houses and narrow lanes lies between harbour and beach. The city hall square is the cultural meeting place in this town. Besides a weekly market many other events are staged here. Close by are numerous places of interest, for example a museum in the old city hall in which the history of the town is exhibited, or St. Nikolai church, made of red brick in the 14th century. Children will be curious what is happening in the sweets manufactory Bonbonkocherei. Here kids can watch how sweets are produced.

The harbour of Eckernförde is a typical town harbour. Fishermen offer their catches early in the morning. A short trip to Denmark makes duty-free shopping possible. But also a fishing tour or excursion on the Baltic Sea can be realized here. At the harbour visitors also find a cafeteria, a barbecue area and a playground for kids.

The town has a beach that is four kilometre long. About 160 metres length of it is dedicated to the use with dogs.
