Halle - a very charming city since centuries

Halle is in terms of population the biggest town in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt and an important location for economy, technology and science. Together with Leipzig, Halle forms the centre of the urbane economic metropolitan area of Central Germany.

Halle is a town of music in which Georg Friedrich Händel was born. He lived here for 18 years. The Händel festival is as lovely as the children's choir festival. Visitors are not only attracted by the lantern party and salt party but also by the great amount of comfortable cafés, restaurants and small bars.

In Halle‘s museum is exhibited the disk of Nebra. Moreover, Moritzburg, the cathedral, the Marien's library and the town‘s graveyard are worth visiting.

Harbour Trotha and a small harbour at river Elisabethsaale which has public landing stage for boats and yachts, characterize the town as do zoo, botanical garden and racecourse.

Visit the red small castle, that was built in the 16th century and is situated very central next to the tourist information and market church "Unser Lieben Frauen" in which the death mask of Martin Luther can be seen.

The new residence was established by Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg and originally thought to become a catholic university. It is one of the most imposing constructions of German early Renaissance.

The cathedral is an early Gothic building whose inside is a real baroque treasury. Until the Reformation the church was the most important centre of science and art in Central Germany.

Today the birthplace of Georg Friedrich Händels accommodates an exhibition about life and work of this famous composer. Nearly 700 instruments dating back to different centuries are exhibited here.

Lovers of castles and art should do an excursion to Moritzburg. The castle was built in the late Middle Ages and used as a residence for Magdeburg‘s archbishops. Today it accommodates the state’s land art museum and a collection of classical modern age exhibits.
