Stolberg
Stolberg
Climatic Spa and Historic European City

Stolberg, since 2010 part of the unified community of „Südharz“, until then had been an independent town and can boast of a long history. Stolberg is well worth visiting for its half-timbered houses built in the „Renaissance“ style, but is also a good starting point for trips to the Lower Harz Mountains with the Nature Park Harz/Sachsen-Anhalt.

Stolberg was founded as a settlement of miners, because iron, copper, silver, tin and also gold were found in the surrounding hills. Stolberg was granted town rights in 1300. The palace situated above the town reminds us that the town was also residence of the Counts of Stolberg.

Stolberg is a touristic destination since the beginning of the last century and has been awarded the attribute „climatic spa“ in 1946. Among the most important sights to see in Stolberg „Palace Stolberg“, the „Town Hall“ and the „Saiger Tower“ vis-a-vis are to be mentioned.
