Magdeburg
The Town of King Otto the Great is waiting for you!

The street of romanticism has a long history and exciting stories to tell. It leads past churches and monuments, along castles and also through Magdeburg. The capital has lots of culture and nature to offer and is absolutely worth a trip.

The „Town of King Otto“ has a lively past and makes an exploratory expedition through town a fascinating procedure. Two “Ottos” shaped the history of this town: Otto the Great and Otto von Guericke. Thy both lend a hand to make Magedburg´s history quite interesting.

The Cathedral of Saint Mauritius and Saint Katharina as well as the art museum of the Monastery Unserer Lieben Frauen are known far beyond Magdeburg. The cathedral is the first German Gothic cathedral construction and one of the biggest church constructions in Germany. The old City Hall and the old market with Magdeburg‘s Reiter – presumably a representation of Otto I – are further places of interest which should be visited.

Also modern constructions are absolutely unique in Magdeburg. So, for example, the Green Citadel of Magdeburg, one of the final architectural works of the big artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The waterway cross has the world’s longest canal bridge and is at least as much interesting.

The Elbauenpark has a unique sea stage. The Millennium Tower is one of the biggest timber-frame construction works of its kind worldwide. In this wonderful park‘s many marvellous little corners you can dream and relax. This "man-made landscape" also includes a butterfly's house, playgrounds, sports facilities, subject gardens and a fantastic sunbathing area. Other parks worth mentioning are  the town park Stadtpark which has a variety of attractions particularly in summer to offer, and the Herrenkrugpark in which one can wonderfully relax or just enjoy having a picnic in the shade of old trees.

Town partnerships: Le Havre (France), Harbin (China), Radom (Poland), Saporoshje (East Ukraine), Nashville (USA), Brunswick (D), Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina)
