Elbe-Börde-Heath, a region rich in history

The work of Roman-German emperor Otto I was felt in this region long before his coronation in 962. Throughout his long lasting rule Otto I guaranteed the indivisibility of the monarchy and pursued his sole power of decision to assign offices. Due to that he had many enemies in the rows of aristocrats and even his own family.

In 968, by founding the archbishopric of Magdeburg he did a step towards determining the Christianisation of slaves.

Today the region is heavily loaded with significant historic reports. Magdeburg is centre of the street of Romance leading through Saxony-Anhalt and thus has many places worth seeing.

Regarding surroundings the region is very diverse as well. Magdeburg Börde, Colbitz Letzlinger Heath, Elbauen and Flechting mountain range surround castles, parks and health resorts like for instance the sole medicinal bath Bad Salzelmen. Additionally, there are various concerts, traditional markets and even possibilities to learn a traditional craft. All these offer an extensive amount of activities to both active and recreation vacationers.

TIP: Elbe town of Glinde calls an affectionately designed Candlemas museum its own. Since 100 years they celebrate the awakening of the sun in spring with a traditional parade.
