Pilgrimage Church of the Scourged Saviour

Between the rivers Lech, Ammer and Loisach, Lake Ammer and Lake Starnberg up to the Ammergau mountains are so many churches, chapels and monasteries as nowhere else in the country. It is thus not surprising that somewhere the name Pfaffenwinkel, which literally mean cleric corner, came up.

The pilgrimage church „Zum gegeißelten Heiland auf der Wies“ is one of the most important places worth seeing in the region. In 1984 the church that was built in rococo style was listed as UNESCO world heritage.

A visit to the Welf cathedral of the former Premonstratensiansian monastery Steingaden, the former monastery church in Rottenbuch, the monastary village Polling, the Romanesque basilica in its old town, the monastery of Wessobrunn with the Wessobrunn prayer and numerous magnificently designed village churches are worth visiting as well.
