Holiday dream town in the south of Germany

In the valley of river Loisach lies very idyllically the town Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Surrounded by high mountains, the health resort town is a favoured destination for those who wish to get to the peak of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. From Garmisch, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is often shortly called you can take a rack railway to its peak.

Actually, this small town is exactly as you would imagine a little holiday destination in alpine scenery to be. Walking, hiking, health treatments, skiing or just enjoying the beautiful scenery, Garmisch offers something for everybody at manageable prices.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is known from past times when it was venue of the Winter Olympics in 1936, alpine ski world championships in 1978. Today it is of course known for its natural white-water distance on river Loisach which attracts many canoe drivers.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen has partnerships with three towns:

Chamonix (France, since 1973)

Lahti (Finland, since 1987)
