Oberstaufen - alpine idyllic surrounding in summer and winter

First mentioned in AD 868, Oberstaufen offers lots of shops in an alpine idyllic surrounding. There are especially small specialist shops, as for example the „Penninger Cabinet of Schnapps“ which is ironically situated right next to a church and offers many specialities, a collection of well-chosen wines as well as historical liquors. Comfortable cafés and restaurants invite you to taste their delights. A very special café is the „blue house“. Two floors of seating area have 60 seats to enjoy not only food and drinks but also a rather inspiring decoration, which you even can buy.

Being awarded the sportiest municipality of Bavaria, Oberstaufen enthrills with countryside, a wide area of hiking trails and a modern skiing area. Golf players will enjoy playing on one of Germany’s  highest golf courses. Further attractions are an alp experience trail, the high ropes course in the woods „Waldhochseilgarten“, the summer toboggan run, the cheese school „Allgäu“ and the farm museum "S'Huimatle".

A special attraction is the alpine custom of Viehscheid, also called Almabtrieb, which is a cow train in September. For wellness fans Oberstaufen might be of great interest as well, since it is Germany’s only health resort for Schroth Cure.

Oberstaufen is a market town with around 7,300 inhabitants and located in the southwest of the Bavarian-Swabian administrative district of Oberallgäu, bordering both the Westallgäu and the Austrian district of Vorarlberg. Oberstaufen is known for its Austrian-German cooperation projects, such as mountain Hochgrat (1,824m) and a nature reserve called Nagelfluhkettee.
