The county of Oberallgäu with its approximately 149,500 inhabitants is situated in the Bavarian governmental district of Swabia. It is the farthest south administrative district of Germany and comprises 28 municipalities. The west and southwest county borders are at the same time state borders to the neighbouring country Austria. The highest mountain is mount Hochfrottspitze (2.649 m). The best known gorch is the Breitachklamm through which the river Breitachklamm flows. Seat of administration is the city of Sonthofen.

Respectivley nature, this county offers a lot. It has more than 10 nature reserves, 25 conservation areas as well as 90 natural monuments and protected scenery components. The area consists both of alpine and pre-alpine terrain.

Economically, the county focuses on dairy farming, tourism and mechanical engineering.
