Schleswig-Flensburg
Schleswig-Flensburg
Up in the north a most lovely area for relaxation is waiting for you

This holiday paradise near the Danish border and Flensburg‘s Förde is bordered in the east by the Baltic Sea, in the southeast by river Schlei and in the southwest by river Eider. It is a holiday region far off mass tourism. The long coast with its numerous beaches is favoured by yachtsmen. Bicycle and hiking trails lead through natural scenery and nice woods.

Next to an attractive scenery, ocean, sun and wind, this region is rich in comfortable villages and towns and further boasts of many cultural-historical places of interest. Thus the city of Schleswig is one of the oldest towns in the area. In the town of Gottdorf for instance stands an imposing baroque castle in which several state museums are accommodated. The medieval cathedral of Saint Peter impresses similarly as does the old fishing settlement in which old tradition is still kept up.

Whether in the morning, at noon or in the evening, every single host of about 2,500 accommodations will greet you with a friendly "Moin, moin". Locals are harsh but warm in nature. If you come to be acquainted with some locals you will love their kind of humour, their love of liberty, but also their patience.

TIP: One of the highlights is the „Herring Days“ in Kappeln where you can still see herring fences at work. Every year between March and May the herrings of the Baltic Sea swim into the Schlei River to spawn and get caught in these 50 metre long fish traps.
