Altmark
Altmark, the „cradle of Prussia".

Between river Elbe and the federal state of Lower Saxony lies Altmark which is twice as huge in surface as the federal state of Saarland. Comprising of nearly 400 villages and medieval towns Altmark is one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Germany. It once was part of Mark Brandenburg and is therefore nick-named „cradle of Prussia". It was also native home to Otto Prince of Bismarck and other personalities which left their printfood in history.

In Altmark, in the north of Saxony-Anhalt, visitors can do a lot of things. Over 1500 kilometres of hiking and bicycling trails run through a wide and quiet country. 18 nature trails explain the surrounding while taking you along 80 kilometres through wonderful scenery. Besides, the region has the longest horse riding trails in Europe and is thus favoured by horse lovers.

An impressive amount of old churches made of red brick and fieldstone have been built in this region. Paying the old imperial residence Tangermünde a visit or exploring Salzwedel, Stendal, Havelberg and Osterburg are worthwhile anyhow.

More than 100 hotels, boarding houses, holiday apartments and rider courts will be happy to make your stay even more perfect.
