Donau-Alb
Wonderful hiking and trekking country

Awarded as UNESCO GeoPark the Alb has numerous well signposted hiking trails. But there is much more to see than just hiking trails:

The region of Alb-Danube and Ulm offers lots of recreational activities like climbing, swimming and wellness, canoeing, steam locomotive journeys, golf, Segway or winter sports.

Cyclists can use, for example, 14 cycling tours, GPS data and interactive maps provided, or simply in form of a brochure. Among them is the first high-class cycling track of the Schwäbische Alb (Swabia Alb), the star 4-Alb valley cycle trail (Albtäler-Radweg), Danube cycle trail (Donau-Radweg) and Iller bicycle trail.

Tours of this kind can be complemented by sightseeing of castles and fortresses, or visits to historical towns along the Upper Swabia Baroque Road. Besides, the Swabia Alb is one of Germany‘s areas richest in caves.  About 2,500 known caves are found in this region. To mention only one, the famous Blue Pot (Blautopf) as it is called, is a intermittent spring which arises on the edge of the Old Town of Blaubeuren.

Interesting for young and old is the ice age art in some caves. This art is dated back 40,000 years. Ice Age town Ehrenstein lies close to Blaustein-Ehrenstein and was listed as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.
