A well-known winter sports centre

Oberhof is a rural town in the administrative district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. The town lies at a height of 815 metres in the Thuringian woods. It is a well known German accredited winter sports centre and one of the most visited destinations in Thuringia.

In Oberhof are many winter sport complexes. Best known is the ski jump called Hans Renner‘s ski jump, one of the biggest in the world. The racing toboggan run can also be used by visitors at competition free times. On a 1000 metres long alpine slope with floodlight skiing is a great pleasure. All around the year skiing can be done in the sport complex DKB. For those who do not like exploring the scenery on ski can take a horse carriage.

Rennsteiggarten is a popular destination because of its mountain flora. In the adventure bath H2Oberhof you can relax after skiing or hiking. Cyclists can take the Rhön-Rennsteig and Haseltal cycle trails.

Events

There are some great events staged in Oberhof when it’s winter. The biathlon world cup, toboggan world championships and international dog sledge race take place here.

In mid-summer August Oberhof city party is much fun for the young and old.
