Bad Salzungen
Bad Salzungen
The town of the sole springs

Bad Salzungen is capital town of the district of Wartburg and situated at Werra just between Thuringian woods and river Rhön. Bad Salzungen is an accredited sole health spa town. In its centre lies the lake Burgsee.

Reason for settlement in and around Salzungen were the sole springs, which are still of importance to the town. A long time ago sole springs meant wealth and, however, warlike discussions.

In 2012 the old city square „Marktplatz“ was decorated and renovated with an terrace platform along the lakeside. At the Marktplatz are numerous originally renovated half-timbered houses, some of them offering modern shopping possibilities. For resting and tasting some of the delicious regional dishes the restaurant Ratskeller has a very good menu. In the small alleys around „Marktplatz“ a lot of shops provide an exciting shopping experience.

Especially recommended is taking a walk through the graduation works. Persons suffering from an allergy can here inhale air of high salt content. It might be of healing power to skin rashes too. But also totally healthy people will find a tour through the plant interesting. Especially the garden and its historical well inhalation place are quite inviting.

For relaxation you can visit the Celt's bath that has a sole pool with salt from the Dead Sea. Even young visitors will have lots of fun here.

For an overnight stay Hufeland hotel is the place of choice since it is equipped with generous rooms, some even have sea view. Wireless access to internet is free of charge.
