Spa with a long tradition

Bad Liebenstein is a provincial town in the area of Thuringian Wartburg. Together with its neighbouring municipalities of Schweina and Steinach, the district of Bad Liebenstein is part of the town Bad Liebenstein which counts 8000 inhabitants. The town is situated in the middle of three mountains. Bad Liebenstein offers a direct view of the Werra valley. Since 2010 officially being a health resort town, Bad Liebenstein looks back on a tradition of hundreds of years as medicinal bath town. In prior GDR it was known as the biggest heart health resort of the country.

The former health resort house was renovated and today accommodates a 4-stars hotel.

Above town are located the ruins of Castle Liebenstein which was built in the 14th century. Some ruins of the Gothic palace and military wall still remain. In the health resort itself the „well temple“ is worth seeing, which was built in 1816 in classicistic architectural style. The post office was built in 1895 in the Frankish Hennebergisch half-timbered style and is probably the best known building in the town.

The animal park of Bad Liebenstein was constructed on a former fruit meadow. While at the beginning local animals like goats, squirrels and roe deers were held, lately also exotic animals like iguanas have been added. In front of the zoo‘s entrance is a bird's teaching show.

Tourists interested in sports find splendid possibilities for hiking, walking, bicycling and canoeing with or without guides.
