Weimar
Weimar
Goethe´s town

Weimar is a town in the middle of Thuringia situated in the Thuringian basin. River Ilm flows through this wonderful university town.

Numerous museums, historical architectural monuments and cultural sites make Weimar an attractive city for visitors. With an impressive range of guided tours the city responds to the demands of many visitors and was awarded at the federal competition „our town blossoms“ in 2004 and 2008 with the first place.

The old, classic Weimar was in 1998 listed as UNESCO world cultural heritage. The house where Goethe used to live is as well listed as UNESCO world heritage and accommodates today the National museum in which the rich collections of Goethe are exhibited. Just some footsteps apart is the Schiller house which is today a museum, too.

You should not miss visiting the Anna Amalia Library which was reopened after it was partially destroyed by a fire. For a visit you should order tickets some time in advance.

The exhibition on Bauhaus style is located nearby Theaterplatz.

In Weimar are hotels suiting every taste and purse. From five star luxury hotels to youth hostel, everything is available in Weimar. The congress centre is available for conferences, meetings and musical events.

Weimar is also integrated to Thuringia‘s bicycle and hiking trail net. Goethe's house is meeting place for the historical Goethe footpath that leads to Großkochberg. Also known car trails like the Thuringian classic road and the beer and castle road lead through Weimar. Thus on your way passing town you can have a short stop to get a beer in the oldest restaurant of Weimar, the White Swan.

Weimar has a medieval castle which is open to public. Like park Belvedere it is situated outside town.

Contemporary pieces of art are exhibited in „Neues Museum“, in the gallery Eigenheim and in Klassik Stiftung Weimar.

The town museum Stadtmuseum displays the history of Weimar. The Weimar house itself is a private historical museum in which you can witness the history of the town in a quite entertaining manner.
