Heiligenhafen
Heiligenhafen
Old tradition and modern marinas

Heiligenhafen is a provincial town in the administrative district of Ostholstein being situated at the farthest end of peninsula Wagrin at a bay of the Baltic Sea.

At the market square of Heiligenhafen many well renovated historical patricians’ houses can be seen. In the centre lies a 750 years old town church. During past days a bell called Kökschenglocke rang every evening just before 22:00 o’clock at the roof of the city hall.

Next to Old Town is the fishing port, another witness of 700 years of history. Here you can meet fishermen who mostly have learned their craft in family tradition from their ancestors. The smell of the salty sea might also arise in you the wish to sail. Or you take a stop at one of the lovely bars and tiny restaurants.

Today two modern yacht harbours offer over 1000 berths. Nothing is left here of idyllic old times. Nevertheless, Heiligenhafen’s Marina is one of the nicest modern yacht harbours at the Baltic coast. Situated in the centre of town, berths at this harbour are available for all ships regardless of their dimensions. Old city and fishing port are in few minutes walking distance.

The newly built “Erlebnis-Seebrücke” (Adventure Pier) can be reached by taking the Marina‘s promenade. The pier with its length of 435 metres is the town’s pride. Opened in 2012 the pier offers seats and couches to its guests. In glass covered segments you can take a look at the sea without being disturbed by the sometimes harsh wind. Kids have fun at a play ground. A sun deck is for those you would like to take a sun bath or prefer swimming. When you stay until late hours you will enjoy the wonderful sight of the sundown.

Four kilometres of sandy beach and dune scenery are perfect for relaxation. Fans of surfing and sailing will be thrilled by Heiligenhafen.
