Malente
Malente
Holstein´s "Switzerland"

Malente is a provincial town in the district of Ostholstein in the federal state of Schleswig – Holstein. The town consists of three villages, Malente-Gremsmühlen, Neversfelde and Rachut.

The health resort has a healthy climate and lies in the middle of the idyllic lake and hill district Holstein Switzerland. The peaceful landscape invites to make escursions into nature. Typical Holstein manor houses and medieval castles attract tourists as much as lakes for swimming.

From the 140 steps high wooden mountain tower next to Neversfelde you’ll have a marvellous overview of the surroundings.

Immenhof Manor is a mansion and popular destination. Between 1955 and 1957 movies with the name “Immenhof” were shot here. Also worth visiting is the Tews-Kate, the oldest smokehouse cottage in Ostholstein. Today it accommodates the Museum of Local History. The building itself dates back to the Thirty Years' War. Once ham and smoked sausage were smoked here. Today it’s displaying agricultural devices. But interior furnishings of the kitchen as well as original devices for spinning and weaving also give insight into long past days.

The game reserve Malente calls 20 hectares with red deers, fallow deers and wild boars its own. Especially kids love to visit the place. In immediate neighbourhood is the Arboretum Malente with 120 different types of trees from all over the whole world.

To those interested in history we recommend a visit to the Castles of Plön and Eutin.
