High above picturesque rock scenery in Saxon Switzerland

Königstein fortress has gone through glorious but difficult times. Located high above picturesque rock scenery in Saxon Switzerland, the fortress was conquered in 750 years only once at the beginning of the 15th century. Its new owners, the Weltiner family converted the castle into a fortress.

National treasures, art treasuries as well as the Saxon royal family were kept secure here in troubled times. 9, 5 hectares comprises this mountain fortress which had among its guests the Russian czar Peter I, Napoleon and several Prussian kings. Here you can look down to the ground of the deepest well of Saxony – 152,5 meters!
