Dresden Zwinger
Dresden Zwinger
Der Zwinger – world-wide famous example of baroque architecture

Plans for the construction of these splendid pavilions were made already in the early 18th century. In 1719 the Zwinger was officially opened. Purpose of the orangery, Nymph's bath and the big patio was to create a proper ambience for courtly feasts and parties.

Enter the Zwinger through the crown gate which has become a landmark of Dresden thanks to its unique form. Afterwards visitors can go down to the Nymph's bath with water fountains and then visit the carillon that contains 40 bells of Meißner porcelain.

Also the Porcelain Collection should definitely be seen. It is simply astonishing how excellent craft abilities are reflected in delicate porcelain figures rich in ornament, elegant dishes and courtly objects of the past!
