Augustusburg Palace
Augustusburg Palace
One of the most important Renaissance buildings in Germany

Also being called „The crown of the Ore Mountains“  Augustusburg Castle is an impressive building that can be seen from quite far away. This hunting lodge and summer residence was built over 400 years ago by Elector August.

Still today the castle’s church houses a splendid wooden carved altar with an altarpiece made by Lucas Cranach the Younger that has survived the Reformation.

Worth visiting is also the carriage museum which exhibits about 20 carriages and sledges made during past 300 years. The motorcycle museum will excite motorcycle fans: here you’ll find 170 machines produced since 1961. Numerous astonishing rarities are also on exhibit.

TIP: Do not miss the exciting presentations at eagle and falcon's court.
