Monastery and trouts

The accredited tourist resort Eußerthal is an individual municipality with just 1,000 inhabitants and is located in the administrative district of Southern Wine Road in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Its highest peaks are the Döreneck (514 m), Harzofenberg (556 m), Almersberg (564 m) and Kehrenberg (531 m). Eußerthal was founded in 1148 as a cloister of the Cistercians. In the middle of Eußerthal stands today the impressive Cistercian's church of Saint Bernhard whilst only very few stones are left of the original cloister. During the 13th century the abbot of that cloister was guardian of the imperial jewels that were kept in castle of Trifels.
