One of the oldest castles of the region
The individual municipality of Wilgartswiesen has around 1,200 inhabitants and is located in the administrative district of Südwestpfalz in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is an accredited resort and the oldest municipality in the Queichtal. It was mentioned for the first time in documents in AD 828.
Surrounded by meadows and the Pfälzer woods, Wilgartswiesen lies beneath two stony witnesses of history: the castle ruin of Falkenburg which is located on top of a red sandstone rock, and the ruin of Wilgartaburg, one of the oldest castles of the Palatinate
Wilgartswiesen has both very excellent restaurants and a wonderfully situated wellness hotel.
An extensive network of cycling and hiking trails guide you through the biosphere reserve nature reserve Pfälzer woods.
