Schindhard
Schindhard
Rocks and restaurants

Being an individual municipality with only around 600 inhabitants, Schindhard lies in the administrative district of Südwestpfalz in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is an accredited health resort. Centred in a small side valley of the river Wieslauter in midst of the landscape Dahner Felsenland, Schindhard is headquarter of the Palatine climbing union and was mentioned for the first time in AD 1470.

A paradise for nature´s friends

Surrounded by rock massifs, Schindhard is very much idyllic with its mainly half-timbered 18th century houses that are quite typical for the area. A variety of restaurants offer culinary delights, but an excursion to the nearby Bärenbrunner Hof restaurant is still worth wile. It is an organic restaurant serving organic, regional and seasonal fresh dishes as well as home-baked cakes. Whilst sitting in the sun on the restaurant’s terrace you might even have the chance of watching a climber on one of the surrounding rocks. The Bärenbrunner Hof offers many organic products in the restaurant’s own bakery store and equipment for outdoor activities in another store called Bärenhöhle.

Climbing, hiking, mountain biking and nordic walking are the local activities of choice. Furthermore, Schindhard has a forest teaching trail and lots of hiking trails which lead past weird rock formations made of red sandstone. On various rock peaks is sufficient space for a picnic or for just admiring the spectacular view of an extensive valley scenery.
