History and modern times hand in hand

Kaiserslautern is an independent city with approx. 100,000 inhabitants. It is situated at the northwest edge of the Pfälzer woods in the south of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The city of Kaiserslautern is also seat of administration of the county of Kaiserslautern. It is centred in the middle of mountain Humberg, Kahlenberg as well as Rothenberg and the Sickinger height. The river Lauter flows beneath the city.

“Barbarossa Town”

Kaiserslautern is nicknamed Barbarossa town, because of the influence during the Holy Roman empire. Today it is centre of technology, well known for its botanic and cultural facilities, a city for shopping and football as well as home to a well-known university.

Town of fountains

Kaiserslautern's attractions feature the horticultural show „Gartenschau“, a Japanese-style garden, the „Kaiserpfalz“ with its underground alleys and the Casimir palace with the Pfalzgrafen hall. Be aware, that some attractions can only be visited on a tour. There are several tours, all focusing on different themes. In the city centre you will find the "Kaiserbrunnen" and the „Schwanenbrunnen„ next to 48 other fountains.

Barbarossa town is not only an inside tip for fans of history, football, botanic or theatre, Kaiserslautern‘s outstanding nature moreover offers a perfect surrounding for relaxing and sports.
