Remscheid
Sea city in the mountains

The highest town of the Bergisch Three got its rather strange nickname ‘sea city in the mountains’ due to its trade with overseas countries.

Remscheid is an important location for tool development and manufacture as well as for mechanical engineering and steel forming. Thus here is located the German Tool Museum.

However, Remscheid has a worldwide known son, too: the Physics Nobel Laureate and discoverer of X-rays, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, to whom the Röntgen Museum is dedicated.
