Parchim
Gothic buildings inmidst wonderful natural landscapes

Parchim is the principal town in the administrative district of Ludwigslust-Parchim. The town lies embedded between forests and meadows on river Elde in Westmecklenburg.

Worth seeing is the historical Old Town with lots of historical buildings and numerous half-timbered houses that line up around the market square. The City Hall for example dates back to the 14th century and was renovated in 1995. Embankment arrangements, partially preserved remains of the 14th century, surround Parchim.

In the centre of the town are Gothic and late Gothic buildings and wonderful squares. Do not just pass St. Marienkirche, which is an example of historical architecture. Immediately next door is the tin house, the second oldest half-timbered house in town. During the last years large parts of the town have been renovated.

At the northern edge of the town lies Lake Wockersee which is a popular recreation area with lots of green surrounding. The lake borders a landscape protection area called Wockertal and the Danzer Marshlands. The later is habitat to many rare plants and animals.

Events

In spring and autumn music festivals are staged in the Old Town. Different national and international bands and musicians play in restaurants, bars and pubs and entertain the guests.
