City of "four towers"

Neubrandenburg is principal town of the administrative district of Mecklenburg Lakes and lies about 135 km north of Berlin. Due to four medieval town gates the city is nick-named “town of four gates”.

The city centre comprises the historical Old Town, in which all inhabitants used to live until the mid 19th century. Already in the Middle Ages the city centre was built in form of a circle. The city’s streets are built within this circle in a right angle from north to south and from east to west.

The Market Square underwent renovation during last decades and is equipped with a fountain and lighting system. A car park is situated under the square. In the south the city centre borders at a Culture Park to which the Tollense Lake belongs.

Embedded between the medieval Town Wall with its four late Gothic gates are numerous „Wiekhäuser“ houses and the Fangel Tower. If you are curious how the city looks from above, you should climb the tower of the Concert Church and enjoy a marvellous bird’s eye view of the town.

After a sightseeing tour to medieval places you can visit modern attractions in the Culture Park of Neubrandenburg, southwest of the city centre. Numerous restaurants and ice cream parlours as well as for younger guests a petting zoo and a circus will enchant both young and old. Tollense Lake offers bathing possibilities with its Broda beach. At Augusta Bath you even can hire a boat and take a tour on the lake.
