A palace at a water way

Ludwigslust is a town in the administrative district of Ludwigslust-Parchim. The town lies at an artificial water way between Stör canal and the Ludwigsluster canal Rögnitz.

After an extensive renovation project the town has since 1989 positively changed a lot. In the city centre is the residence castle of Mecklenburg‘s dukes. The scientifically educated owner J. J. Bush had itself influenced construction that is still today visible in the castle. Historically equipped rooms take visitors back into the 18th and 19th century. Today a café is run in the former hunting hall.

Across the castle is the monumental town church, a splendid construction of classicistic style. Attention should be paid to the altar.

Another place that definitely shouldn’t be missed is the Schlosspark. Take a walk through Mecklenburg’s biggest and nicest scenery park! It’s a perfect place for rest and relaxation.

On a city tour in a horse carriage you can admire the town church, the castle and the Old Town. The carriages are also available for weddings. In winter, very romantically, rides are done in horse sledges.

Ludwigslust offers best conditions for cycling tours. Solid bicycle and hiking trails lead visitors through the nicest areas around town.

The town offers also a great variety of organised canoe tours. Waters rich in fish will delight anglers’ hearts. At the city hall you can get a limited fishing pass which is valid for 28 days.

Events

Throughout the year small concerts are staged in the golden hall at the castle. Even exhibitions, sports events and natural history excursions have a place in the town‘s annual program.
