Oldenburg
Oldenburg
Green town with huge pedestrian street

Oldenburg has around 160,000 inhabitants and belongs to the metropolis region of Bremen / Oldenburg. It is both a university town and a former royal seat. Oldenburg lies at the edge of the nature reserve Wildeshauser Geest in western Lower Saxony.

The town has a long history. In 1108 it was mentioned for the first time in documents. In past times near Oldenburg (at that time still called Aldenburg) there was a bridge crossing the river for those travelling for trade from Bremen or Westphalia to Jever.

The Old Town is quite charming thanks to the rivulet Hunte, a residence castle and a nice pedestrian street, offering places of interest, shopping possibilities, colourful markets and comfortable cafés.

Taking walks around the city will lead you to the Castle Garden, Botanical Garden, Eversten Forest as well as to the Small Bürgerbusch and Great Bürgerbusch. The town embankments still stretch enclose the town like a belt of public parcs, offering many recreational possibilities.
