Norden
Norden
The most northwestern town of Germany

Part of the county of Aurich, the city of Norden has 25,000 inhabitants and is located in the northwest of the federal state of Lower Saxony. It is not only one of the oldest cities in East Friesland but also the city situated farthest northwest on the mainland. Norden is an independent municipality. In close distance lies the North Sea with the mudflats national park as well as the islands Juist and Norderney. The highest peak is 9.7 m above NN. Since summer 2010 the city’s district Norddeich is accredited as a North Sea health resort.

Mudflat hiking tours

Main emphasis is economically put on tea processing, agriculture and tourism. Among the city’s attractions are a car and toy museum, a seal station and the wale museum “Waloseum”. Ocean water outdoor pool, adventure water land “Ocean-Wave” and very good cycling and hiking paths are perfect for leisure and sports. Guided tours through the UNESCO-world nature heritage mudflats are as well quite outstanding. Further you can take a walk on the 27 km long dyke, visit one of the lighthouses or rent a beach chair to cuddle up amid some dunes. Dog friends and their dogs will both be excited by the two hectare big dog beach.

In Norden’s restaurants you can discover a vast variety of maritime dishes and fresh fishes. A must to taste is North Sea crabs on black bread with scrambled eggs.
