Hofheim
Hofheim
Centre of the richest district of Germany

Most of the inhabitants of Hofheim don´t even know it, but they live in the centre of the most well-to-do rural district in all Germany. Actually, they should be able to feel it, since they had a buying power of 141, i.e. they could afford to spend 41 percent more than the average citizen of Germany.

One does not have to look far to find the reasons for this wealth: Hofheim is situated right between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden in the centre of the Rhein-Main Region, and Mainz, the capital of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatine, is just 20 km from Hofheim. Jobs, and good paying ones at that, are to be had in abundance.

Wealth will have its way – in Hofheim shows itself in form of many villas, lots of gardens and an abundance of trees and green. This impression is intensified by Hofheim´s location at the feet of the Taunus Hills, namely at the Kapellenberg. The Schwarzbach, a creek running through Hofheim, opens to a long and winding valley embedded between the Taunus Hills and leading to Eppstein and Niedernhausen as well as Idstein.

A rather biggish pedestrian zone with lots of partly sophisticated shops invite to take a stroll, and if this stroll should leave you exhausted, you will be able to sample tasty and delicious dishes as well as the odd coffee or wine in the cafés and restaurants within the well restored half-timbered houses in a historic ensemble around the tower “Türmchen”, as it is called lovingly. Those who like to shop until they drop will find their paradise in the nearby “Chinon Center”, a shopping mall opened just two or three years ago.

Culture-vultures will prefer to visit the Alte Rathaus (Old Town Hall) in midst the pedestrian zone. A stroll through the Old Town Quarter with its half-timbered houses in graceful ensembles will be crowned by a visit to the Town Museum (Stadtmuseum) Hofheim, where you will be able to learn everything about the traditional craft of the tanner – they had their workshops on the banks of the creek Schwarzbach in the “olden times”. If you walk up to the tower “Meisterturm”, built in 1928 at the hill Kapellenberg, you will have a wonderful view of the plain of Main River and the skyline of Frankfurt.

Hofheim is a good starting point for trips to the Taunus Hills and the Rheingau, but also people who would like to see Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz without staying in midst the hustle and bustle of a big city will love to stay in Hofheim.
