Bamberg – Germany’s Dream Town

During the past 1000 years Bamberg turned into a unique historical town. Listed as UNESCO world cultural heritage, Bamberg’s old town is the biggest undamaged old town in Europe. Around 2400 listed houses and an ancient quarter called „Gärtnerviertel“, represent a synthesis of arts. Facades of buildings are characterized by impressive ornaments, wonderful decorations and unique details. The venerable imperial and bishop's town is built on seven hills. Highlighted by an imperial cathedral the town forms an architectural ensemble of the Middle Ages and middle-class baroque. The old town has three historical city centres: Bergstadt, Inselstadt and Gärtnerstadt.

The cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Georg is one of the imperial cathedrals and dominates the old town with its four church towers. The cathedral accommodates the „Bamberger Reiter“, the last resting place of Heinrich II and Kunigunde, who were the only canonized imperial couple of the holy Roman empire, as well as the grave of pope Clemens II which is the only pope's grave in Germany.

TIP: Do not miss relaxing after a sightseeing tour while drinking a refreshing beer in one of the nice restaurants!
