Zwiesel
Lovers of crystal glass should visit this town

Although Zwiesel was awarded the title „officially recognized climatic spa“ in 1972, this town is known as a centre of the glass industry as well. Thus in Zwiesel you will find a few crystal glass factories as well as a Glass Production School. Many visitors of this beautiful town do not only enjoy the mountains which surround Zwiesel but also buy a souvenir made of crystal glass.

Visitors interested in the forests and mountains of the Bavarian Forest can easily reach the Great Arber (1,456 metres) and its only slightly lesser neighbour, the Große Falkenstein with its 1,315 metres. Also a trip to Czechia can be included during a holiday in Zwiesel, since the border station „Bayerisch Eisenstein“ is just 15 kilometres away.

If you take a stroll in the town of Zwiesel, you might want to visit the parochial church St. Nikolaus, a neo-gothic building from the end of the 19th century. Much older is the Rococo Church Maria Namen, built in 1767 and offering interesting paintings. To experience something entirely different you should visit the „Underground Ways of Zwiesel“ which consist of extended tunnels near the „Zwieseler Burgstall“. Glass production, forests and history are the topics of the 8,000 exhibits shown in 17 rooms in the „Wood Museum“ (Waldmuseum) in Zwiesel.
