Breitenberg
Breitenberg
Close to the Czech Republic and Austria

Breitenberg, officially recognized as a resort town, is part of the southern „Bavarian Forest“ and only about 30 kilometres far from Passau. As a very young town it came into existence as late as 1818, after a major administrative reform had taken place in Bavaria.

Breitenberg is chosen by quite a number of tourists mainly for its location near to the borders of the Czech Republic and Austria, thus offering the opportunity to visit places in both countries during very short trips. In Breitenberg´s quarter of Gegenbach there is a Weaver´s Museum (Webereimuseum) to be seen, and the village of Rastbüchl boasts of a ski-jump tower which sometimes is used in international competitions.
