Böblingen
Paleolithic age, culture, technology and future

Settlements in the Böbling area go back to the Paleolithic age (approx. 25000 - 20000 B.C.). The remains of a mammoth that has been found here show traces of human work. Tumuli of the Bronze Age (approx. 1100 B.C.) and of Celtic times (about 400 B.C.) show that the region was already back then a popular area for settlement. First documents date back to the Middle Ages around 1100 A.D. In these are written the name of "Bebelingen" as being an Alemannic nobility gender. Back in 1272, Counts of Tubingen gave the town for the first time a character by building an oval around mount Schlossberg and street Marktstrasse.

In the 18th century almost all inhabitants were Protestants. At the beginning of the industrial age many-sided craftsmen, diligence and skill, but also the ingenuity of Böbling’s inhabitants were of great advantage for the town.

With future oriented companies as IBM (1949) and Hewlett Packart (1959) as well as small and medium sized companies a massive growth in economy and population began. Already during the 70s high-tech was known here. Last but not least, Mercedes Benz has its head quarters in Böblingen and developed innovative ideas for the automobile industry, as for example the „Smart“.

Town partnerships with seven European cities give Böblingen an international atmosphere and the shopping area in Unterstadt or on "Hulb" attract visitors from many different countries.
