Biberach
Biberach
Imperial city, county seat, university city

The name of the town Biberach for the first time appears in written document in 1083. Almost 200 years later, in 1281, the town was given privileges as “Free Imperial Town”. During the German Peasants Wars and the Thirty Years Wars it was the stage of many battles. In 1806 Biberach came to Württemberg, and since 1850 it is connected to Stuttgart and to Friedrichshafen by railway. When it grew to have more than 20,000 inhabitants at the beginning of the 1960s, Biberach was declared “major county seat”.

Biberach is a place of interest for visitors as a station on the “Upper Swabia Barock Route”, the “Upper Swabian Mill Route” and also on the “Swabia Poets Route”. Old artisan crafts can be studied in the Braith-Mali-Museum, but people rather interested in modern topics will want to visit the Movie and Cinema Museum Baden-Württemberg. Fans of architecture might be fascinated by the gothic church St. Martin and two medieval towers at the border to the former “Weaver´s Quarter”.
