The Thuringia part of the mountain range Rhön is fascinating scenery with basalt hilltops, marshlands and wild-romantic valleys. Both well developed hiking trails as well as nice bicycle trails lead through a low mountain range.

A lot of leisure time activities are offered in the Rhön: Horse riding, climbing, paragliding, canoeing and much more. Relaxing in health resorts is as nice as is gliding on the summit of the “Wasserkuppe” which shall soon become an immaterial cultural heritage.

Strolling, drinking a coffee or having refreshments in comfortable restaurants – all of these are possible in the nearby villages which often are built in old half-timbered style. The sole medicinal bath of Bad Salzungen is worth a visit too.

Some domestic animal species have been adapted to region Rhön and are bred here since centuries. Thus you can see, for example, the Rhön sheep and the Thuringia forest goat.
