The administrative district of Rheinpfalz has nearly 150,000 inhabitants and is situated in the southeast of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate in the metropolis region of Rhine Neckar, which is located between the forests of Pfälzerwald and Odenwald. In terms of surface it is the smallest district in Rhineland-Palatinate and comprises 25 municipalities. The district’s west part is also called „vegetable garden of Germany“, whilst the east is characterized by many bathing lakes and for the region typical, attractive Rhine meadows, that sometimes even have primeval forest-like character. The main river in the district is the Rhine. Seat of administration is the city of Ludwigshafen.
