Prignitz-Oberhavel
A successful combination of protection and usage

This scenery is marked by the Ice Age and extends from the northwest of Brandenburg over the Prignitz Plateau to the Elbtal valley. Mostly wooded sandy areas, vast lowlands rich in water with lakes encompassed by deciduous forests form a natural greenbelt and tourism recreation area.

In this region of Brandenburg one quarter of the federal state‘s agriculturally utilizable areas are found. Approximately one third of the region is covered with woods. A successful combination of protection and usage has inspired tourism and local recreation industries.

Although this region is rather sparsely populated it is a quite attractive spot for those working in Berlin but preferring to live on the countryside. During past years investments have been made to strengthen infrastructure, trade and tourism. Golf courses, recreational parks and water facilities were created which now add value to any form of recreational holidays.
