Schwaben, a part of Bayern, is a wonderful region boasting of medieval towns like Augsburg with its 264,000 inhabitants, and also touristic towns like Kaufbeuren, Kempten and Memmingen. The most attractive parts of the region are the hillside country Allgäu and the Donauried with their mountains and lakes. In the Allgäu winter sports are the main attraction.
